The first entry in this year - I admit - will have a long break in a lighter atmosphere. Christmas and New Year period I was able to spend in a family atmosphere m.in. catching up on lekturowych. One of the books we read was "The Way 66 does not exist "by Wojciech Orlinski. Its subject matter - a description of the history and present of one of the most famous roads in the world – entitles it, to describe it on this blog, although in truth the law rather far 🙂
Perverse title (referring to the author's previous book "America does not exist”) explains the author: drug 66 in 1985 r. has been removed from the map of the road network as a separate path, hence the journey in accordance with the historical course is not possible in many (bo np. a fragment of a local farmer took straw and other internal road became a Marine base). Survived, however, so much the fragments, that the author could go on tour from Chicago to Los Angeles (jak twierdzi na koszt wydawcy 🙂 ) and the journey that describe. But this is not ordinary travel book or guide. Author interweaves a fascinating description of the way the story of America, its history and culture, especially popular culture, in the way 66 served an important role as the road leading to Hollywood. The reader might find, why American cities are built on the basis of a number of roads intersecting at right angles, why Chicago is blowing and how to build the foundations of the American nation in the Wild West. All this is written in a very colorful and with a sense of humor.

For me, just in the first year was not so bad – at the end of a lot of sleeping child. It was not until after the end of year, czasu przestało starczać na cokolwiek 🙂 Rozwiązaniem są audiobooki – thus still dozens of books a year I was able to read / przesłuchać 🙂 A i motywacja do obowiązków domowych wzrasta, kiedy możesz sobie spokojnie prasować ze słuchawkami na uszach 🙂
Affirmative great book, has only one drawback , stripping of illusions , and we still want to believe in the American dream. On the other hand, for an ideal envious Pole:))))
This odzieraniem of the American dream is even worse in the first book – America does not exist. Tam dopiero obala wszystkie mity o Ameryce 🙂
